Parents and staff volunteered so that our students and their relatives could enjoy our first ever Lunar New Year Celebration. There was a lovely image table, where traditional decor, food and attire used for the Lunar New Year were displayed. Guests were able to practice writing Chinese Characters, taught to write their name or any of the good wishes given during this time. Guests were even able to take home a beautiful banner they created for a keepsake.
Those attending the festival were able to play various traditional games and win cute prizes. Children were able to make play-doh models of Chinese characters, find toys using chopsticks inside a huge bowl of rice, and enter opportunity drawings.
We had a delicious array of food available for purchase including fried rice, noodles, rice cakes, dumplings, Taiwanese sausages, and chicken nuggets. To quench our thirst, we had Wintermelon and Lemon Honey drinks, in addition to juice and water.
The principal and assistant principal also walked around and gave every child a red envelope with a cold chocolate coin, wishing them good health and luck, "Gong hei fat choy!"
Thank you to all who attended and our wonderful parents/teachers who volunteered to make sure this event would be amazing!
